For many of us, although we are aware of how precious life is, it can still feel unbearable. Despite our efforts to change, we remain irritable, anxious and hopelessly aware that our life is not as we wish it, that the world is not as we wish it. In our attempts to meet the demands of our lives we often feel that we have no choice but to repetitively dismiss our struggles. This, too, takes work and we end up exhausted and despairing.

In therapy, I open a space for you to lay down your pain, for you to rest from rationalising and to begin to feel and to trust. Gradually, you will learn that your struggle does not point toward any innate badness or inadequacy – it is a totally coherent reaction to the life you have lived and the world you have inherited. Feeling your pain is a courageous and magical act. It frees you from the work of pretending so that you can grow and love.
